Salman Khan’s much-awaited film Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace has taken an important step towards its theatrical release. The film’s trailer has reportedly received clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), raising hopes that its promotional campaign could begin soon. However, the film itself is still awaiting its censor certificate, and the makers are reportedly considering November 20 or December 11 as possible release dates.
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the trailer was passed by the CBFC on Wednesday, November 4. It has received a U/A 16+ certificate and has a runtime of 4 minutes and 43 seconds. The unusually long trailer is expected to offer audiences an extended glimpse into Salman Khan’s upcoming war drama.
The development comes amid uncertainty over the film’s previously anticipated November 13 release. With the final censor certificate still pending, the makers are reportedly looking at alternative dates to ensure the film is ready for its theatrical arrival.
Maatrubhumi Trailer Gets U/A 16+ Certificate from CBFC
The CBFC clearance marks a significant development for Maatrubhumi. The trailer, which runs for 4 minutes and 43 seconds, has received a U/A 16+ certificate. Its extended duration makes it considerably longer than a conventional theatrical film trailer.
The trailer’s certification is an important step for the film’s promotional campaign, but it should not be confused with clearance for the complete movie. The feature film is yet to receive its final censor certificate, which remains an important factor in determining its release schedule.
The latest development has also renewed attention around the film’s trailer launch. Variety India has separately reported that a trailer launch event is being planned in Mumbai for November 6, although an official announcement from the production team is awaited.
Salman Khan’s Maatrubhumi Release Date: November 20 or December 11?
Maatrubhumi was earlier expected to release in theatres on November 13. However, the delay in receiving the film’s censor certificate has reportedly made that date difficult to achieve.
A source quoted by Bollywood Hungama said that the makers are now considering November 20 as the next possible release date. December 11 is reportedly another option being discussed by the team.
“With the delay in receiving the censor certificate, it is unlikely that Maatrubhumi can arrive next week. Hence, the makers are now planning to bring it on November 20. Another date that the team is considering is December 11,” the source said.
The source also indicated that an announcement confirming the new release date is expected in the coming days. Until the makers make an official statement, however, neither November 20 nor December 11 should be treated as a confirmed theatrical date.
Jio Studios will handle the film’s distribution across India, according to the report. Its distribution plans will become clearer once the final release date is announced.
From Battle of Galwan to Maatrubhumi: What Is Salman Khan’s Film About?
The project was initially announced as Battle Of Galwan before being renamed Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace. The film is based on the 2020 Galwan Valley confrontation between Indian and Chinese troops, one of the most significant border clashes between the two countries in recent years.
Salman Khan plays Colonel Santosh Babu, the Indian Army officer who led his troops during the confrontation. The film is directed by Apoorva Lakhia and also stars Chitrangda Singh in a prominent role.
The project has attracted considerable attention because of its subject matter and the sensitivity surrounding its portrayal of the India-China conflict. Earlier reports suggested that the film faced scrutiny over its content and references to China. More recently, reports indicated that it had received government clearance, although the final CBFC certification for the feature remains pending.
The change in title also gave the project a different identity from its original announcement. The new title, Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace, places greater emphasis on the film’s broader theme while retaining its connection to the events that inspired the story.
When Will Maatrubhumi Trailer Be Released?
With the trailer now reportedly certified, attention has shifted to its public launch. Variety India has reported that the makers are planning a Mumbai event on November 6, ahead of Diwali. The event is expected to give audiences a longer look at Salman Khan’s portrayal of Colonel Santosh Babu.
The trailer’s 4-minute-43-second runtime has already become a talking point, particularly because it offers the possibility of a more detailed preview of the film’s story, performances and action sequences.
For now, the biggest development to watch is the official release-date announcement. The trailer has cleared one certification hurdle, but the film’s final censor clearance and theatrical schedule are still awaited.
Maatrubhumi has moved closer to its theatrical release with the reported CBFC clearance of its 4-minute-43-second trailer. Whether Salman Khan’s film arrives on November 20 or December 11 will depend on the remaining certification process and the makers’ official announcement.
