Singer Sreerama Chandra has spoken up in support of Sonu Nigam after the legendary artist faced backlash for an incident at a concert in Bengaluru. Sreerama, known for his strong vocals and his appearance on Bigg Boss Telugu, believes the crowd should have shown more patience and respect, especially since they had come to listen to Sonu’s music.
What Went Wrong at the Concert?
Sonu Nigam recently performed at a live concert in Bengaluru. During his performance, a group of young men shouted at him, demanding that he sing songs in Kannada. Sonu responded by referencing the recent Pahalgam terrorist attack, and this comment sparked a major backlash. The Kannada film industry, also known as Sandalwood, reacted strongly. They not only criticized Sonu but reportedly decided to ban him and even removed one of his recorded songs from an upcoming movie.
Sreerama Chandra Speaks Out
In an exclusive interview with the media, Sreerama Chandra defended Sonu Nigam, saying that the audience should have allowed the artist to run the show as he had planned. “These things happen often during shows,” Sreerama said. “I’ve performed at many events across India, and the crowd usually comes from different regions. We try to include something for everyone.”

He added that Sonu Nigam, being such a big name and respected artist, likely had a plan in place for the show. “He might have started with Hindi songs and planned to include Kannada songs later in the set. You can’t expect someone to sing in one language for the entire two-hour show,” Sreerama explained.
Let the Artist Lead
Sreerama also pointed out that artists plan their performances depending on the state or region they are performing in. “When I perform in Hyderabad, I make sure there are Telugu songs in the mix. That’s how it works. But the audience has to trust the process. The artist is on stage to lead the show, and we need to let them do their job.”
He continued, “It’s not right to shout or interrupt the performance halfway. If Sonu didn’t sing Kannada songs at all by the end of the show, then people could raise a question. But stopping the performance midway is simply disrespectful.”
