Remembering Dev Anand On His 100th Birth Anniversary

Dev Anand, the superstar Bollywood actor is considered one of the finest and most successful actors in the history of Hindi cinema. On his centenary birthday actors like Shabana Azmi, Raveena Tandon, Tamannaah Bhatia, Shilpa Shetty Kundra, and many others have paid their tribute by reminiscing their favorite Dev Anand movie.

Anand’s career spanned over six decades and he worked in more than 100 films. He was a four-time Filmfare award winner. The legendary actor has also been conferred with Padma Bhushan (2001) and Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award (2002).

Dev Anand had a glorious film career starring in several successful films like Jaal (1952), Taxi Driver (1954), Insaniyat (1955), Munimji (1955), C.I.D. (1956), Pocket Maar (1956), Funtoosh (1956), Paying Guest (1957), Kala Pani (1958), Kala Bazar (1960), Guide (1965) and Jewel Thief (1967).  Anand was the ‘poster boy’ in the ’50s because of his charming looks and romantic image.

His unique way of nodding and fast dialogue delivery turned into his trademark style as an actor. One of the highest-paid actors of his time, Dev Anand was considered as the “first fashion icon” of Bollywood. In a UK poll celebrating 100 years of Indian cinema, he was placed in the seventh rank among all the great actors of all time.
